Making the Transition from Prison

If you know someone in prison, encourage them to talk with their program specialist regarding their need for housing (if they do not have a place to live) and work. They should also be in prayer regarding a place to worship.

We would also appreciate your experiences with transition ministries. If you have benefited from a Christian halfway house, an emergency housing shelter or other ministry, we would like to know about it. Please email us and tell uswhat men leaving prison should expect from these ministries.

Encourage men to begin praying months ahead of their release and to trust that the Lord is already going before them to prepare a place.

Getting a job is a key to success and it is a real concern for men preparing to leave prison. Some employers will not hire a man or woman with a felony conviction; however, you only need one job. So don’t treat ten rejections like the end of the line. You don’t need ten jobs, you only need one. Keep praying and following the Lord’s direction for the job search. He will lead you down the right path.

Here are a couple of articles that may help men prepare mentally for the transition out of prison. Feel free to copy and mail them to men you know.
